About Chris Angus
Award-winning author of historical thrillers, mysteries, and young adult adventures
My Journey
I come from a literary family consisting of seven published writers. My father Douglas and mother Sylvia were both professors of English Literature, so books and storytelling were woven into the fabric of my upbringing from the very beginning.
After studying at St. Lawrence University, I built a career as an author, editor, and columnist. For ten years I served as Book Review Editor for Adirondac magazine, and I've published more than 400 essays, articles, book introductions, columns, and reviews in a wide variety of publications — including The New York Times,Albany Times-Union, Adirondack Life, American Forests, andAdirondack Explorer, among many others.
My thrillers take readers on adventures set all over the world, exploring scientific and medical issues, recent DNA discoveries, and ancient mysteries. From the tunnels beneath London to the volcanic forces of Iceland, from the jungles of Africa to the fog-shrouded coves of Nova Scotia, each story plunges characters — and readers — into extraordinary danger.
I also write nonfiction (under my full name, Christopher Angus) and a young adult adventure series. The Emma and the River of Time series follows twelve-year-old Emma and her cousin Peter as they discover a time-traveling river and journey through history.
Writing Philosophy
I'm drawn to the intersection of history, science, and human ambition — the places where the past reaches into the present with very modern consequences. Whether I'm writing a thriller that pits characters against shadowy conspiracies or a young adult adventure that sparks a love of history in younger readers, my goal is always the same: to craft a story that keeps you reading late into the night.
My thrillers deal with the big forces shaping our world — climate, power, ancient secrets — while always staying grounded in real characters facing impossible choices. I want readers to finish a book and feel they've both been on an adventure and learned something surprising about our world.

Beyond Writing
When I'm Not Writing
You'll find me out on the water — I'm a passionate paddler who loves meandering small rivers and streams where I can lose myself in solitude. The Adirondacks have been a lifelong inspiration, both as a subject for my nonfiction work and as a place of personal renewal.
