Synopsis
Emma is a strong-willed twelve-year-old with an annoying older sister, a serious cousin, Peter, whom she tries to impress with her own seriousness and a river behind her family farm that transports her through time. Each trip down the mysterious river leads them back in time to confront Native Americans, incredible virgin forests, cave men living in the shadow of glaciers and an enormous cave bear.
They eventually learn that traveling upstream takes them forward again in time, but they are unable to control where they end up. Will they ever find their way back to their true home? And will their newfound pioneer friend, Justin Sparhawk, also lost in time, ever find his way back to his own family? The answer lies in the hidden cave home of their ancestors, in the skull of a huge cave bear and in the ancient artwork on the cave walls that they rediscover once they return to their own time.
Emma and the River of Time is the first book in this series that follows Emma and Peter during their adventures through time to confront famous characters in history, including Queen Nefertiti, the young pharaoh, Tutankhamun, Sherlock Holmes and Winston Churchill, among others.
